Activities with Intel Research
Background Dr. Alberto Amorsolo, Jr. is presently Professor at the Department of Mining, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines. He has a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, U.S.A. as well as B.S. and M.S. in Metallurgical Engineering degrees from the University of the Philippines. Dr. Amorsolo has been a full-time faculty member at the University of the Philippines since 1981 and has rendered consultancy and training services for the semiconductor industry in the Philippines in the field of materials science and failure analysis. In July 2006, Dr. Amorsolo received the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) Outstanding Professional of the Year Award for Metallurgical Engineering.

Dr. Amorsolo’s research interests include thin film systems for microelectronic applications, fabrication of shape memory alloy foils by electroplating route, transmission electron microscopy characterization of materials, failure analysis and lead-free solders.

Background Joel Marciano, Jr. is currently the Acting Chairman of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Engineering. He is an Associate Professor and holder of the Globe Telecom Professorial Chair in Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE). He obtained his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Philippines in 1994 and his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia in 2001. His research interests include multiple antenna signal processing for wireless communications, space-time coding and diversity, wireless sensor networks and RF/microwave circuits.

He was the 2004 Dado Banatao Fellow at the University of California in Berkeley (UCB), where he was a Visiting Scholar at the Berkeley Wireless Research Center (BWRC) from June to December 2004. After his stint at the BWRC, he was a Visiting Scholar at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California San Diego (UCSD), where he worked with Professor Rene Cruz on the development of a signal processing algorithm for reliable detection of packets in low signal-to-noise ratio environments. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), associate member of the Institute for Electronics, Information and Communications Engineers of Japan (IEICE), a registered Electronics and Communications Engineer (ECE) in the Philippines and member of the ASEAN Engineers Register. Joel has been involved with several industry institutions in the Philippines as a consultant on RF/wireless systems.

Background Joy Alinda Reyes is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in the College of Engineering, University of the Philippines, Diliman. She obtained her BS in Computer Engineering in 2000 and her MS in Electrical Engineering, Major in Microelectronics in 2005, both from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. She is also a faculty member of the Intel Microprocessors Laboratory and the Microelectronics and Microprocessors Laboratory. Her research interests include computer architecture, floating-point arithmetic, and low-power digital IC design.
