BackgroundMr. Abdul Karimi graduated from Universiti Teknologi Mara, Malaysia with Diploma in Electronics Engineering and Bachelor of Electrical Engineering. He received ‘Young Lecturer Scheme’ scholarship from UiTM and pursued his Master in Electronics Engineering at University of New South Wales, Australia. He was a Product Engineer for HC11 microcontroller group at Motorola Malaysia.
His current research activities are digital IC design and microcontroller-based system design.

About Professor Assoc. Professor Azizan Aziz is presently attached to School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia. His career spans are more than 10 years with USM since 1986. He was involved in the development of the school, particularly curriculum development, setting up undergraduate lab and as well physical development of the school.

He has tutored, mentored many students on many research projects and has published more than 30 papers at national and international level. His current research interest is in lithium-ion battery and nanoscale materials. He is now leading a research group in synthesis and characterization of vanadium oxide nanotube, and in collaboration with a Japanese University. His current research interest is in thermal interface materials using CNT and Electrically Conductive Adhesive using nanoparticle filler. Under his leadership in research, the School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, USM, has now been designated as Intel’s Centre of Research and Teaching (CORT).

Currently, he is the Deputy Dean in charge of Research & Development and Postgraduate Program. Through his own initiative, Intel and the School is now working closely in several research projects as well as developing a new course for a M.Sc. program.

Focus Area Nanomaterials and lithium-ion battery
Current Research Synthesis and Characterisation of Magnetic Nanoparticles, Thermal Interface Materials using Nanoparticles and CNT as fillers.
Activities with Intel Involved as a team leader in the curriculum development of an Electronic Packaging course at the School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering for the M.Sc. by Mix-Mode programme. Research-leading group of researchers in the “Development of a Polymeric TIM Materials using carbon nanotube as a filler”. This project is jointly developed with Intel team and a grant was awarded by Intel for this project.
Background Dr. Azizan bin Aziz graduated from USM with B.Sc. (honours) and completed his Master on Electrochemistry from University of Salford. He then completed his Ph.D. in Chemical Processing of Mineral’ from USM. He is now a Deputy Dean (R&D) and has tutored, mentored many students on many research projects and has published more than 30 papers at national and international level. He is now leading a research group in synthesis and characterization of vanadium oxide nanotube, and in collaboration with a Japanese University.

Research
Background Dr. Ewe Hong Tat was born in Penang Island, Malaysia and did his secondary school education in Chung Ling High School, Penang. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) degree from University of Malaya, Malaysia, Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from M.I.T., USA and PhD degree from Multimedia University, Malaysia.

He had worked before in Motorola Penang, Intel Penang, MIT’s Research Laboratory for Electronics, and University of Malaya, and is currently the Dean and also an associate professor at the Faculty of Information Technology, Multimedia University.

In publication, he has published in books, international journals and conferences and has been an IT column writer in Sin Chew Daily since 2001. His research interest includes microwave remote sensing, satellite image processing, IPv6, wireless sensor network and iris recognition. The research projects have been funded by Malaysia Ministry of Science, Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Intel, European Commission and JobStreet.com. He is also a senior member of IEEE.

He is also active in technopreneur development work and was formerly the Director for Center for Commercialization and Technopreneur Development in Multimedia University. Currently, he is an independent non-executive director of PUC Founder (MSC), a listed company in MESDAQ, Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange and has been consultant and advisor for several listed and startup companies in Malaysia.

Academic Experiences Graduated with Ph.D. from Imperial College in 1982 and became a lecturer in Universiti Sains Malaysia. Beside teaching and active in research, has hold several administrative positions including as Deputy Dean (1996-99) and Dean (2001-2005) of school.
Research Interests Multiphase polymer systems; reactive blends, crystallization and melting of crystallizable component, morphology and properties.

Teaching Have been teaching in UUM since 1984.
Research Interests As an academic, her research interests include computer systems performance modeling, simulation, ant colony optimization and intelligent agent. These and other works have been published in 25 international and national journal papers, 50 proceedings of international conferences and other publications. Her book on ‘C Programming’ has won her the best publication award in the academic book category in 1999 and in 2002, she published another academic book on ‘Mathematics for Business’.

She has won the Bronze Award in Malaysia Technology Expo 2006, Kuala Lumpur organized by Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) for the project title “Web-Based System for Non-Revenue Water Management”. She was bestowed with the ‘Ahli Mahkota Kedah’ award in 2001.

Background Dr. Lee Sze Wei was born in Malaysia in 1970. He obtained B.Eng.(Hons.) in Electronics and Optoelectronics, M.Phil., and Ph.D. from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, UK in 1995, 1996, and 1998 respectively. His research interests include Wireless Communication and Networking. He joined Multimedia University, Malaysia as a lecturer in 1999. He became a senior lecturer and associate professor in 2001 and 2003. He is currently the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Multimedia University and is heading the Centre of Multimedia Communications, a research centre focusing on communication and networking in the university. He has been collaborating with Intel Malaysia on several research projects related to computer and wireless networking since 2001.

Background Dr Nurulakmal Mohd Sharif graduated from USM with BEng (Materials Engineering) (honours) and completed her PhD in “Fatigue Behavior of Al-based Metal Matrix Composites Produced by Stir-casting and P/M” from University of Wales Swansea, U.K.

Besides the teaching and research at USM, she is also involved in a number of technical seminars organized by MISIF (since 2004) and also as one of the advisory panel for MARA ‘Diploma in Foundry’ curriculum development and MLVK NOSS development panel for ‘Steel Making’ and ‘Foundry’.

Her research interest is in Metal Matrix Composites (in-situ composites, Al-based, intermetallic composites), surface treatment and high temperature oxidation of Ti.

Background Wong Eng Kiong was born in Malaysia in 1970. He obtained B.Eng. (Hons.) in Electronics Engineering and Ph.D. from the University of Western Australia in 1995 and 2000 respectively. His research interests include robotics, automation and applications of microcontroller. He joined Multimedia University, Malaysia as a lecturer in 1998. He became a senior lecturer and associate professor in 2002 and 2004. He is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Information Science and Technology, Multimedia University.

Background Zulkifli bin Abd. Majid graduated from Hanyang University, Republic of Korea with B.Sc. (honours) and Master Degree both in Electronics Engineering. Currently Zulkifli is a coordinator at Faculty’s Microwave Technology Centre. He has served as Deputy Dean of the Faculty. He also was the first General Manager of UiTM Document Services. To date, he has tutored, mentored many students on many research project and has published papers at national and international level.

His current research activities are failure analysis, circuit design and low power IC design.
