In-service

The Intel® Teach In-service Program offers K-12 classroom teachers a curriculum designed specifically for their needs. Teachers learn how, when, and where to incorporate technology tools and resources into their teaching. They also learn how to create assessment tools and align lesson plans with provincial learning outcomes. The goal is to prepare today's teachers and students for tomorrow's demands.

Under the program, trainings have been conducted for teachers from schools of Central Board of Secondary Education Board (CBSE), Indian Certificate of School Examination Board (ICSE), State Education Boards and Projects and Support Organizations under the administrative control of Union Department of Education.

Intel Teach program provides both face-to-face and online instruction to help teachers integrate technology into their classrooms. The Intel Teach trainings emphasize on the effective use of technology in the classroom, research, communications productivity strategies and working in teams to solve problems. Teachers learn how, when and where to incorporate technology into their lesson plans, with a focus on developing students' higher-order thinking skills. They experience new approaches to create assessment tools and align lessons with educational learning goals and state syllabus outcomes. Teachers are provided with all the necessary curriculum materials.

Training Model

The program uses the Train the Trainer Model. Master trainers (MTs) are identified by the principals of the participating schools. They undergo comprehensive training and then become the resource persons and impart training to other teachers in their schools.

Intel® Teach Program certificate is awarded to teachers after successful completion of training.

Evaluation

The annual Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB) survey conducted on the impact and program implementation has shown a significant improvement in student learning due to the usage of technology in the learning process across the country.

Major findings (2006):
  • Overall, 77% have used computer technology, which is higher in private schools at 90%.
  • 88% have implemented any lesson plan at least once.
  • 68% of the teachers work with their students in computer labs at-least once a week.
  • Computer technology continues to be used primarily for Computer Literacy & Computer Aided Teaching purposes.
  • ‘Learning curriculum’ is the most important objective, & more so in public schools.
  • Most teachers are increasing their frequency of computer aided activity, like working with students to enhance computer skills & present information to students through the use of computers.
  • Majority of teachers implementing technology in new ways.

Initiatives with the Government

The vast majority of children in India study in Government schools, and the full potential of technology in the educational arena will only be realized when its benefits reach students and teachers in these schools. In joint initiatives with the Government at the Central, State and local levels - Intel is working towards the broad deployment of computer aided learning in these schools through the Intel® Teach Program. The program covers schools associated with Central Government and various State Governments.

Under the Central Government, the teachers trained are from autonomous educational bodies Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti also known as Jawahar Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS/JNV’s), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Vidya Vahini.

As a result of these efforts, the program has also started influencing policies to deepen ICT integration in the education system in India. The program representatives are providing consultative support to various State Governments on matters related to technology in education.

Today, Intel is working with various State Governments to train teachers from those schools. Read more about State Government Projects .

Post training support

In consultation with Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya Vidyalaya and State Governments certain schools are selected and set up as Pilot TAL (Technology Aided Learning) schools. These schools act as model schools for Government which help them in implementing TAL and associated methodologies in other government schools that have adequate infrastructure.

Some of the key changes in Government policies that have taken place as an impact of the Intel® Teach Program are as follows:

  • Intel® Teach Program certificate has been made valid for “ICT” skills for teachers in Gujarat.
  • Intel and Gujarat Government have worked in collaboration for framing of technology standards for the State Education Board.
  • Various Governments have invited Intel for the Curriculum Review Workshops.
  • Intel in collaboration with the Government has developed Technology Supported Project Based Learning guidelines in states like Gujarat and Karnataka.
  • Program has impacted curriculum, pedagogy and policy related to ICT integration in education, in states like Gujarat, Uttaranchal, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
  • Guidelines developed in collaboration with Mahatama Phule Abhiyan for bringing Qualitative Changes in the School Education System in Pune which is being adopted in other districts of Maharashtra as well.

Central and State Contests

To promote the implementation of technology in education by teachers, state level contests are conducted annually in collaboration with State Education Boards of Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Central government bodies like the KVS and NVS.
