Intel® ‘Threading Champions 2009’

Intel has created a unique platform (Threading Champion) and set a chain reaction among Visvesvarya Technological University (VTU) students to explore their talent and hone their programming skills. This is a great initiative to train today’s youth to lead tomorrow’s technology & organizations - Dr. K.V. A. Balaji, Registrar, VTU .







To felicitate the winning students of the ‘Threading Champion Contest 2009’ the Intel® Higher Education Team in association with Intel Software Services Group and Visvesvarya Technological University (VTU) held an event on Aug 11, 2009 at PESIT, Bangalore.

The contest launched on March 3, 2009 had been organized to create awareness among students on the scope of Multi-core Technologies. 1008 participants from 78 colleges of the university participated in the first round which consisted of an online open book quiz on Multi-core Technologies.

The students who qualified for the second round worked in teams on research articles related to Multi-core Technologies. The appraisal of the articles was done by an expert jury panel, comprising of senior technologists from Intel and senior faculty members from reputed engineering colleges in India who selected the winners from the 126 qualifying teams.

Dr. K.V.A. Balaji – Registrar VTU Belgaum was the chief guest of the ceremony along with other distinguished delegates like Dr. Kalyan Muthukumar - Principal Engineer, Intel India, Prof. D Jawahar - CEO PES institutions, Prof. M.R. Doreswamy, Founder, Chairman of PES Institutions, Mr. Satish Narule – Manager Intel Higher Education Program, Corporate Affairs Group, Intel, Mr. Harshad Deshpande – Asia Pacific & Japan Geo Program Manager, Intel Academic Program and Ms. Preethi Raj – Manager Developer Marketing APAC, Software Services Group, Intel.

Dr. Balasubramanya Murthy, Principal, PES Institute of Technology inaugurated the ceremony and in his welcome note expressed his happiness at the association of PESIT institutions with Intel. Ms.Preethi Raj in her address provided an overview on the contest and on the Intel Software Network (ISN) motivating students to participate and contribute in the Intel Software Network. Mr. Satish Narule, Manager, Intel Higher Education Program, declared the winners while the awards were given away by Dr. K.V.A. Balaji, Registrar, VTU and Dr. Kalyan Muthukumar, Principal Engineer, Intel India.

Dr. K.V.A. Balaji, Registrar, VTU in his address congratulated Intel on its initiatives in motivating the youth while Dr. Kalyan Muthukumar provided an overview on Multi-core architectures with emphasis on scope and opportunities for students in the filed of Multi-core.

Prof. D. Jawahar, CEO PES Institutions who also addressed the gathering was extremely delighted that students from PESIT had won a Technology Grant of Rs. 250,000/- and said that the PES management had decided to double the prize money and to use the funds exclusively for supporting student projects related to Multi-core Technologies.

The Intel Threading Champion Contest has been a really amazing experience. This is the first time we have written a research paper, the most important take away for us from this exercise was that Multi-core is next big thing and there is a huge scope and multiple opportunities for us. - Namratha.
