Multi-core Technology Workshop for Engineering Faculty at IIT Kanpur

A week long extensive course on Multi-core Technologies was conducted at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, from June 29th to July 4th, 2009. The workshop was sponsored by Intel® India Higher Education Program and conducted in collaboration with the Computer Science and Engineering Department of IIT Kanpur. Forty six faculty members from reputed technology institutions across India participated in the workshop, the aim of which was to enable participants to systematically integrate the Multi-core Curriculum in their respective institutions. The workshop was also a motivation for research work being done in the field of software parallelization and advanced computer architecture.

The focus of the workshop was on "Program Optimization of Multi-core architectures" with extensive lectures and laboratory components. The course helped the participating faculties upgrade their skills and knowledge on Multi-core technologies and further helped their institute in systematic integration of Multi-core Curriculum in the engineering education. During the workshop participants developed a large multi threaded application on Multi-core machines using Intel® tools. Dr. Sanjeev K Aggarwal, Dr. Mainak Chaudhuri and Dr. Rajat Moona from IIT Kanpur conducted the workshop and provided guidance to the participating faculties.

Ms. Valsa Williams - Head Corporate Affairs (N&E), Mr. Harshad Deshpande - Asia Pacific & Japan Geo Program Manager and Mr. Satish Narule - Manager, Intel Higher Education Program, Corporate Affairs Group, from Intel Technology India Pvt. Ltd., visited IIT Kanpur during the course and interacted with the participants. The participants of the IIT Kanpur workshop will go back and further train faculties from their colleges and play a catalytic role in implementing the Multi-core curriculum.
