IRIS National Fair 2008 took place at Science City, Kolkata from December 4th-6th, 2008. The National Fair saw 200 students and guides compete for national honours. A team of 26 eminent judges from across India deliberated upon the innovative ideas, the research data and arrived at the final decision.

Winners were selected in 3 categories:

Special Mention Winners:
Special Mention is given across all subjects to both Category I and Category II participants. The Special mention winners won a year’s subscription to Safari India, a national magazine that focuses on science and innovation.

Best of Subject Category Winners:
Best of Subject Category award is given to the project which is excellent in that particular subject category. Both Category I and Category II are eligible for this award. The Best of Subject category winners won a year’s subscription to Scientific American, the popular international science magazine and a year’s subscription to Safari India, a publication on Scientific Innovation in India.

National Fair winners :
5 individuals and 3 team projects are selected as the National Fair winners. These winners will be coached by our esteemed judges and the most deserving 4 individual and 2 team projects get a chance to represent India at the Intel ISEF which is the international science fair, to be held at Reno, NV, USA from May 10-15, 2009.

The IRIS 2008 national fair winners won the IRIS trophy and a PC mate sponsored by Intel. Projects only in Category II are considered for the National Fair winners.

National Fair Winners Qualified for ISEF 2009 :
The National Fair winners were subjected to two rigorous coaching camps held in January and February 2009, by the Scientific Review Committee (SRC). The Judging committee offered the student's feedback related to their projects and tips on how to improve. Post these rounds the Judges finalized six representatives for ISEF which is to be held in Reno, Nevada on the 10th of May this year.
