Higher Education Forums
Regional Intel Higher Education programs provide a venue to foster interaction between Intel and leading universities worldwide. Initiated in Europe in 1996, these forums have served to allow university faculty and researchers direct access to Intel technologists and additionally provide a forum for university participants to highlight their own ongoing research and curriculum topic interests.
Asia Academic Forum

The Asia Academic Forum is an annual conference consisting of a 2-day convention of Intel Executives, Intel Fellows and technologists with premier APAC Academics.

The forum aims to:
  • Showcase Intel’s technology roadmap, business and research directions.
  • Increase participants’ understanding on Intel’s R&D programs and activities.
  • Showcase exemplary work of faculty in curriculum development and research.
  • Discuss the challenges faced by industry, government and academia.
  • Foster an environment for interaction and collaboration between academia and Intel technologists.

Asia Academic Forum is a congregation of faculty, Intel Technologists and industry experts from across Asia to talk about the future of computing. Intel Higher Educations has recognized since its inception that there is a virtuous cycle that arises when universities and industry researchers work in close partnership.

Organized under the Intel® Higher Education Program, this forum gathers key Intel technical experts and top professors from select Asian universities in China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam to exchange ideas on current technology trends and challenges. Our theme for this year is “Accelerating Innovation & Research on Emerging Technologies”. This year, Fourth Asia Academic Forum is scheduled for 24-26 October 2007 at New Delhi in India.

A vital feature of the forum's agenda is a series of sessions which combine networking topics and poster display. Poster sessions feature research and curriculum development undertaken by participating university professors. Participants go around and engage in the discussions with Intel experts and fellow academic researchers.

National Academic Forum

The Intel Higher Education Program in association with business groups of Intel organizes the Intel India National Academic Forum. The forum brings together faculty from engineering institutes across India to interact with top Intel technologists to share and gain valuable information on the industry’s future research and technology trends as well as exchange views with fellow colleagues and Intel experts. The objective of this forum is to:

  • Identify areas for research and curriculum collaboration for the next 2 years in areas of mutual interest.
  • Create awareness on global technology trends.
  • Provide an open environment for interaction and promote collaboration between Intel key technologists.

National Academic Forum 2006 was conducted in April 2006 and the theme of this forum is "Multi Core and Platforms - A Step Forward in Research*". There was poster display session to feature various research and curriculum development efforts by professors of select universities. Poster display sessions aimed to showcase the research and curriculum initiatives at the institutes. There were 25 posters on display from 17 institutes. Attending the forum was 40 faculty members from 21 institutes.

The lectures by Intel Technologists helped share the research programs at Intel and the academia. The objective is to facilitate communication, foster exchange of ideas and initiate collaboration in the emerging technology areas while presenting Intel's current research challenges for future technologies and showcasing Intel's technology roadmap to Academia.

Regional Academic Forum

Intel holds regular forums that enable and facilitate direct interaction between technologists and faculty. This year, to facilitate greater participation from among the faculty of engineering institutions in different regions of India, Intel Regional Academic Forum 2007 was conducted in two different regions – Bangalore and Kolkata.

Important objectives of the forum are to provide:
  • A forum for renowned faculty in India to speak on their research work.
  • An opportunity for select faculty members to showcase, discuss and get feedback on their research ideas.
  • A tutorial on what constitutes a good research proposal and what are the qualities sought by any research body in a research idea.
  • Provide research grants to the best research proposals through the Intel India Research Council. Every grant is associated with a technical sponsor who works closely with the faculty on the research problem.
  • Provide travel grants to select research scholars to international conferences for publications.

Regional Academic forums served as a preparatory ground for the upcoming Asia Academic Forum to be held in Oct 2007. While faculties from over 20 institutes in Western and Southern regions of India participated in the 2 day event at Bangalore, those from the Northern and Eastern regions participated in the event at Kolkata. The learnings paved way for further interaction between Intel and academia that would hopefully turn collaborative in nature.
