Intel Multi Core University Program
Intel Corporation is supporting select universities who are involved in education surrounding advancing the move of Multi-Core architecture. Specifically, Intel is looking to fund research and curriculum that will be centered on Intel Multi-Core architecture (Intel® Multi-Core). Intel Corporation initiated Multi-Core research and Curriculum Development program focused on Intel Multi-Core architecture (Intel Multi-Core university program).

Intel India looks to:
  • Advance the state-of-the-art in Multi-Core technology research based on Intel Architectures in Indian universities.
  • Stimulate new usage models on Multi-Core technology based architecture or platform.
  • Create the conduits for interactions and collaborations on Multi-Core research between the India university professors-students-researchers and Intel technologists-engineers-researchers.
  • Educate and grow the talent base of Multi-Core technology in India.

Intel invites proposals for developing course curriculum and teaching course(s) around multi-core technology for post graduate and undergraduate students of computer science and engineering.

The reach and impact of the Intel Multi-Core University Program witnessed a gradual transformation from predominantly focusing on Tier I institutes, to moving towards Tier II institutes. This has resulted in a growing emphasis on the creation of centres of excellence. Having IIT Kanpur and IISC develop a world-class curriculum and in an endeavor to proliferate multi-core curriculum adoption in India, Intel has reached out to 600+ faculty members from 210 institutes at four national-level conferences held in Bangalore, Jaipur, Mumbai and Chennai.

Intel has revealed the direction IT industry is taking and is encouraging the academia to submit proposals on making changes in their computer architecture curriculum. Looking ahead, the institutes have been enrolled with mentorship from Intel technologists will change their existing curriculum on computer architecture, and start the new course by August 2007 and Dec 2007. After getting designated as the centre of excellence, these institutes will then spread this curriculum to other institutes in India. Each institute typically mentoring 10-15 institutes in their region.

Intel Multi Core Training for Academia
Intel conducts training program for the academia for select faculty from invited institutes working in the area of VLSI, Advanced Computer Architecture and others. Training program provides hands-on experience to the attending faculty members on multi-core programming tools and techniques with areas covering Intel Core Duo architecture, Intel Compilers, threading, Open MP and others. The training session is delivered by Intel Software College multi-threading experts from around the world. Intel also provides course material, computers* powered by Core 2 Duo processors for instructor use in the classroom, as well as licenses for Intel Software Development Products, and access to forums and technical support. Participation at the training is by invitation only.

The on-going multi-core university, initiative at Intel aims to change curriculum of close to 150 engineering institutes by end of 2008.
