Intel Teach Essentials Program was first introduced in Vietnam in 2004. The program began its pilot phase at the two big Universities of Training and Education in Hanoi and Hochiminh City. After the pilot period, as it proved to be appropriate and helpful not only to education teachers and pre-service students but also helps to realize the MOET’s direction of methodology innovation in teaching and learning, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) decided to extend the deployment of the Program to the In-service section. By 2007, the program has reached 17 cities/provinces nationwide.

Intel Teach Getting Started Course was later introduced in Vietnam by end of 2006. After the program has successfully gone through the pilot phase in Hochiminh city and Hue, as a breakthrough was witnessed, an Agreement between Intel and the MOET was signed in August 2007 to continuous implement the program nationwide from 2007 to 2011. The program is now being successfully implemented to a large amount of K12 teachers in 8 cities/provinces in Vietnam.

Up to May 2008, there are more than 39,000 teachers from 21 cities/provinces in Vietnam trained under the Intel Teach Programs.

In-service Program
The amount of K12 teachers trained has increased dramatically over these 4 years. In the pilot year of 2004, only 472 teachers received the training. The outcome of the pilot year encouraged Intel and MOET to sign the MOU to extend the program to all level of the K12 system as in many cities/provinces in Vietnam as possible marked by the program's official launch on 6th December, 2005. Since 2006, after each MT training course, Intel in collaboration with the MOET co-signed and granted Certificate of Completion to all participating MTs. Until end of 2007, the program has been delivered to as high as above 9,800 teachers all over the country. The new Version 10.1 of this program is planned to be piloted in Hochiminh city, Danang city and Lam Dong province in June 2008.

The program has gained full support and good reception from MOET, DOETs and teachers, parents and students as shown in the comments and feedbacks below:

Pre-service Program

Intel Teach was introduced first at HAN UOE and then at HCM UOE in 2004. The implementation process of the two universities has gone through the pilot phase and a breakthrough was witnessed. For HAN UOE, in the school year 2004-2005, the program was run as optional courses in 5 faculties (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Political Education). In school year 2005-2006, the program was officially integrated as compulsory syllabus in 5 above mentioned faculties and as optional syllabus in other 6 (Maths, Philology, History, Pre-School Education, English).

For HCM UOE, faster step was observed. After the trial process of the school year 2004-2005 in which, 100 students from selected faculties received the training, since the school year 2005-2006, the university has conducted a pilot integration of Intel® Teach into the curriculum of most faculties as mandatory modules and as optional modules in others. The Memorandum of Understanding between Intel Vietnam and HCM UOE on the official integration of Intel Teach into the school’s curriculum was signed in November 2006. 10 modules of Intel® Teach Curriculum are incorporated into 2 training modules: Basic ICT and Methodology.

In early 2007, Intel Teach Essentials was introduced at the Education Department of Hanoi National University. Around 800 students were trained under the program in the school year 2007-2008.

Up to June 2008, more than 6,200 Pre-service students from the 3 Universities have attended the course. Around 1500 students are expected to be trained in the school year of 2007-2008.

Following are some feelings of participated students:
“Thanks to the Intel Teach Program, I feel that there is more close relations among students and therefore, more collaboration, solidarity among friends and classmates…I hope that Intel will collaborate with schools and other educational organizations in order to help students to strengthen this” (A students from Hanoi University of Education).

“After attending the Intel Teach program, I feel that I cannot allow myself to be any more lazy, not frequently updated. To meet the current requirements, I have to be dynamic and active. I recognized that IT plays more and more important role and it allows more chances for us to change” (A student from Hanoi University of Education).

Together with China, Vietnam is where Intel Teach Getting Started Course makes its debut. In November 2006, Intel in collaboration with MOET signed the Agreement to pilot the course in the school year of 2006-2007. The course was piloted in 2 cities: Hue and Hochinhminh City. The first MT training course was delivered by the authors of the curriculum to 39 K12 teachers and education teachers of Hochiminh College of Education and Training (HCM COET). The PT trainings with around 1,200 teachers trained in the 2 cities received many positive feedbacks. Both HCM and HUE DOET are strongly committed to the implementation of the course.

Report from CEEA, independent Evaluator for ITGS piloting period (Nov.2006 - Jun.2007): “The course was meaningful and useful for Vietnamese teachers. The course with its content and methods introduced by Intel was suitable and met the needs to innovate and apply teaching methods recently. The course organization was professional, well-designed and the staff from Intel were extremely helpful. Most of the participants, both MTs and PTs, mentioned that they learned a lot from the course: clear objectives, practical content, interesting activities and, especially, the course changed their perspectives of learning and sharing with others.”

Report from HCMC DOET to the MOET on piloting period of ITGS Program in HCMC: “After piloting period, through the evaluation of CEEA and feedbacks of participating teachers, HCMC DOET has made ITGS Program one of the official ICT trainings for all education-administrators and teachers of the City. HCMC DOET suggests the MOET to extend the implementation of ITGS Program widely in provinces and consider qualification of this Program as the Qualification of ICT application in teaching.”

Based on the convincing results of the pilot phase, by August 2007, Intel and MOET signed a 5 –year Agreement to deploy the program to all level of the K12 system in Vietnam.

Since August, the Program has been extended the implementation to teachers, head subject teachers and even administrators (heads of DOETs, BOETS, school Principals & vice principals) of 8 provinces/cities in Vietnam. Up to May 2008, there are above 24,000 teachers trained under the Intel Teach Getting Started Program. Feedbacks on the program are very encouraging.

Around 15,000 teachers are expected to be trained under Intel Teach Getting Started program in the school year of 2007-2008.
