In July, over 375 young entrepreneurs from 15 Malaysian schools participated in the Penang Young Enterprise* (YE) Achievers Sales Fair which was held at Queensbay Mall, Penang. The event was organized by Intel Malaysia, in collaboration with the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), to enable students to showcase their entrepreneurial skills. Through the YE program, students are given the opportunity to learn the entire process of starting up a company, developing a business plan, selling products, and managing the business.
The YE program grooms young entrepreneurs by empowering the next generation with the confidence, ability and ambition to succeed in a rapidly changing global economy. After 9 months of collaboration between the students and a variety of sponsors including Agilent Technologies*, Citigroup*, Dell Asia Pacific*, Federal Express*, Motorola Technology*, OSRAM Opto Semiconductor*, Universiti Sains Malaysia, and Wawasan Open University, students gathered together at the sales fair to showcase their businesses and sell their product creations.
More than 15,000 students have participated in the YE program since it began in 1989 as a community education program that ignites the spirit of enterprise in secondary school students.
“This program certainly deserves continued support from the various industries and the Education Ministry” said Dr Ramasamy, State Economic Planning, Education, Human Resources and Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman.
