Intel-Ashoka Collaborating to Empower Social Entrepreneurs

At Intel, our vision for the next decade is to create and extend computing technology to connect and enrich the lives of every person on earth. There is no doubt that everybody should be enabled with the chance to succeed. Yet it is often still the case, especially in the developing world, that girls and women are being left behind without the means to better their lives. We still have plenty of work to do when it comes to bridging the gap between gender and technology.

Continuing the momentum of Intel’s She Will program, Intel Corporation and Ashoka Changemakers are partnering to launch the She Will Innovate: Technology Solutions Enriching the Lives of Girls competition. This challenge is designed to seek and encourage innovative digital technology solutions that will enable girls and women to live healthier and more meaningful lives.

The competition is designed to encourage contestants to use technology as either the central idea or a key element of strategy to create or adapt a technological innovation for greater social impact. The project must be designed to improve the lives of women and girls and the solution can apply to a range of potential social issues including health, environment, and economic development. Winners will be recognized with more than $30,000 in cash and in-kind prizes awarded to the best and most innovative solutions that empower girls and women through the use of technology.

Ashoka was one of the first organizations promoting social innovation around the world and it remains to be one of the most effective. The Intel-Ashoka collaboration offers a platform to recognise and nurture big ideas from the very best social entrepreneurs and transform these ideas into real-world solutions. Together, we aim to close the gap and spread awareness of the potential for women and girls to connect the world.

Please help spread the word about this social innovation competition to friends, family and colleagues. The next great idea can come from anyone. Visit www.changemakers.com/girltech from now until August 15, 2012 to nominate or enter a solution. Help us innovate and create a meaningful impact on the world.
