Skoool™ Sri Lanka Launched
On Universal Children’s Day the 20th of November 2007, Skoool™ Sri Lanka was launched by the Secretary, Ministry of Education (MoE) Mr. Ariyaratne Hewage at the Boardroom of the Ministry in Battaramulla, Sri Lanka.

This is the latest Intel® Education initiative in Sri Lanka in addition to Intel® Teach and Intel® International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) related activities.

It was attended by key personnel from the academic community and was a great success from the feedback and suggestions received by the audience.

Dr. Ajith Pasqual a senior lecturer from the department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering of University of Moratuwa demonstrated the use of Skoool™ Sri Lanka and appreciated the value of it for Sri Lankan school community.

The Secretary MoE was highly impressed and very enthusiastic about the Skoool™ Sri Lanka and immediately set up a committee to promote the use of it among the students and teachers of Sri Lankan schools in regular teaching and learning.

The invitees from the academic community too were very positive and gave valuable suggestion in how to use it in day-to-day teaching and learning in schools.

Mr. Hewage thanked Intel and Mr. Indika De Zoysa the Regional Manager Sri Lanka of Intel EM Limited and Mr. Priyantha K. Weerabahu the Education Program Manager of Sri Lanka for providing this valuable online interactive Maths and Science educational resource to Sri Lanka.

Currently the Skoool™ Sri Lanka can be accessed with the URL http://www.skoool.lk and is hosted on the SchoolNet of Sri Lanka.

The SchoolNet is a wide-area network (WAN) provided by the Ministry of Education with Asian Development Bank funded Secondary Education Modernization Project (SEMP) connecting most of the senior secondary schools and other related organizations. It can be accessed with the URL http://www.schoolnet.lk.

Skoool™ Sri Lanka LaunchedMinistry of Education has empowered the SchoolNet to host the Skoool™ Sri Lanka Web site to improve the quality and accessibility of Maths and Science online interactive educational content for Sri Lankan students and teachers. It is managed by the University of Moratuwa, Katubedda, Sri Lanka.
