Intel Teach Reaches One Million Teacher Milestone in China

A ceremony was held on November 1, 2007 at Beijing No. 2 Middle School to demonstrate the achievements and impacts of the Intel® Teach Program over the past seven years. The event also announced that one million teachers have participated in the Intel® Teach Program and that 100 million students have benefited as a result. China is the first of over 40 countries where Intel Teach is available to reach this milestone.

Prior to the event, Paul S. Otellini, President and CEO of Intel Corporation, visited a geography class with MOE officials. Here, students work together on laptops to finalize their research presentations by browsing Internet. Two presentations were given by students on their findings.

The ceremony at Beijing No. 2 Middle School included a discussion with an MC, teachers and students to show the Intel® Teach CSR story. During the award ceremony, Paul S. Otellini received a traditional Tibetan sash from teacher Ah Mi. Paul S. Otellini and Chen Xiaoya, Vice Minister of MOE also honored the 15 teachers who won the Teaching and Application Award.

More than 50 journalists attended the event, including media from IT, education, business, mass government, online and five TV media from CCTV-9, CCTV-2, CCTV-Children, CETV and BTV-3. The event highlighted the strong endorsement from MOE towards Intel Teach and further motivates China’s teachers for deeper involvement in Intel’s program.
