
In August, the Intel Science Olympiad Awards Ceremony was held to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of the students who had represented Pakistan in international competitions and fairs. The ten students recognized had all participated in this year’s Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the world’s largest pre-college science competition. They had also participated in the second International Environmental Project Olympiad (INEPO-Eurasia) in Azerbaijan, the Dreamline International Design Olympiad in Turkey and the Korea International Women Invention Exposition.
Most notably, Zahra Suleman Tejani, Sara Moiz Ali and Arif Pyarali from Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Karachi won a first place cash award from the American Intellectual Property Law Association at the Intel ISEF. Appreciation awards for participation at the Intel ISEF were given to Muhammad Awais and Raja Ahsan Mehmood of Park-Turk International Schools & Colleges Peshawar.
International science competition winners included:
Raja Ahsan Mehmood - third place at the Second International Environmental Project Olympiad (INEPO-Eurasia) in Baku, Azerbaijan and second place and the Special Jury’s Award at the Dreamline International Design Olympiad in Turkey.
Mahrukh Tanveer - gold medal for her project “Paper Industry” at the Korea International Women Invention Exposition.
Taibah Jaffery - silver medal for her project “Fly Wheel Energy” at the Korea International Women Invention Exposition.
Zara Iqbal - bronze medal for her project, “Cleaning of Acidic Water using Coal Ash” at the Korea International Women Invention Exposition.
Team project by Amna Sarwer and Sadaf Shaheen - bronze medal for their project “Wild Plants are Precious.”
