Intel: Leading through innovation

By enabling and accelerating the digital revolution, Intel has established itself as the world’s largest microprocessor company and a trusted technology leader.

Today, Intel is moving beyond microprocessors-delivering platforms that integrate the most advanced Intel® technologies with the best products and services from the information technology ecosystem. This leads to transformations at work and at home, as well as in education, productivity, information, entertainment, medicine, and more.

Through the Intel® World Ahead Program, Intel aims to enhance lives by accelerating access to uncompromised technology for everyone, anywhere in the world. The program creates opportunities for widespread ownership and use of affordable, fully capable PCs, while expanding wireless broadband Internet access through the development and deployment of WiMAX* technology. Because the world ahead starts with each person’s opportunity to participate in the knowledge economy, Intel works to prepare students for success through innovative education programs and resources, as well as through interactive learning solutions for teachers and students. To allow people to enjoy the full benefit of technology access, connectivity, and education, Intel also works to catalyze the creation of relevant digital content-applications, information, and services-in countries worldwide.

With breakthrough technology, Intel continues to enable advances in living standards all over the world. Our mission is to empower people, improve lives, and help move industries and economies forward.

Intel’s focus on education
Knowledge is the source of comparative advantage in today’s global economy. Technology enables the rapid evolution of ideas and industries, and those who benefit most are those who can innovate and adapt most quickly. For these reasons, success at the individual level, and ultimately the national level, is linked to the quality of education.

Since its founding in 1968, Intel has been committed to improving education to prepare students all over the world to thrive in the knowledge economy. Intel’s education efforts focus on these key areas:
  • Improving teaching and learning
Advancing 21st century education through the teacher professional development programs, community education, and math, science, and engineering programs of the Intel® Education Initiative.
  • Creating effective Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions
Increasing the worldwide adoption of technology-enriched teaching and learning solutions that make education more relevant and effective.

Improving teaching and learning

The Intel® Education Initiative is a sustained commitment to advancing 21st century education in collaboration with governments and educators around the world. Intel’s education programs, which represent an investment of more than USD 1 billion in 50 countries, focus on improving teaching and learning through the effective use of technology and advancing students’ knowledge of math, science, and engineering. Students need 21st century skills, such as digital literacy, critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration, to succeed in today’s workforce. To help prepare them, Intel offers programs and resources in the following areas:

Professional Development for Teachers
  • Intel® Teach Program: A worldwide professional development program that helps educators cultivate innovative learners and critical thinkers. The Intel Teach Program has, to date, helped more than 3.5 million teachers in more than 40 countries effectively integrate technology into their classrooms to improve student learning. The suite of offerings includes multiple courses and delivery systems that adapt to a country’s evolving circumstances and the readiness of individual teachers. These options allow customization to fit the needs of any country.

More than 110 clubhouses have served 50,000 youth across 20 countries.

Advancing Math, Science, and Engineering Education and Research
Mathematics, science, and engineering drive many of today’s innovations, which in turn fuel much of the world’s economic growth. To help students excel in these areas, Intel supports the following programs:
  • Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF): The world’s largest pre-college science competition. More than 1,400 students from nearly 45 countries compete each year for USD 4 million in awards and scholarships.
  • Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS): The oldest and most prestigious pre-college science competition in the United States.
  • skoool™ learning and teaching technology: Provides online learning resources designed to help secondary-level students understand and explore key mathematics and science concepts (www.skoool.com*). The program is designed to exemplify the benefits of high-quality multimedia technology and stimulate wider use of these technologies to advance student education around the world.
  • The Intel® Higher Education Program: A sustained collaboration with governments and more than 150 universities in 34 countries that accelerates curriculum development, supports focused research, and encourages students to pursue a range of opportunities for technical study and research. Intel brings cutting-edge technology expertise to university campuses to help communities thrive in today’s knowledge economy, advance technology innovation, and create a diverse pipeline of technical talent.

“The laptop is such an incredible tool to use with the kids. It makes you such a better teacher. It makes your classroom run so much better and be so much more engaging—and that is what we have to do with kids today.”
