Intel Taiwan Participates in Global Earth Day

Intel Taiwan Participates in Global Earth Day On 18 April 2009, Intel Taiwan volunteers headed to Wazihwei in north-east Taiwan, to help clean and preserve the coastal wetland. Now in its fourth consecutive year, the event was led by the Taiwan Society of Wilderness (SOW). Intel Taiwan volunteers were also given the opportunity to learn about the wetland ecosystem and observe the damaging effects of coastal erosion on the shoreline habitats of plants and animals.

Intel Taiwan Participates in Global Earth Day More than 60 volunteers, including Intel employees, their family and friends participated in the cleanup, with almost 800 kilograms of waste removed. The volunteers then sorted the debris into recyclable and non-recyclable waste. The event helped to educate the volunteers on the importance of environmental protection and that successful conservation requires long term commitment.

Intel Involved in AFCSR

The Asian Institute of Management (AIM) launched its book: “Corporate Social Responsibility in Asia: Getting it Done, The Intel Way” at the annual Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility. The book is a case study of our programs in India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam written by AIM faculty and researchers through field visits and stakeholder interviews. It is a great third party endorsement of the work that we do in the CSR space in Asia, and portrays us as a role-model.

The 2008 IACRA (Intel-AIM Corporate Responsibility Award) winner was also announced at the Forum. Intel instituted the award in association with AIM, in 2007, to honor companies, NGOs and organizations in Asia for outstanding integration of CSR in business. This year, the winner was Shakarganj Mills Ltd, a leading manufacturer of sugar and sugar by-products in Pakistan, for its “Sukh Char Programs”, a range of social action initiatives that aim to directly contribute towards safe, healthy and educated communities.

The AFCSR was held in Singapore on November 20-21. Intel is a major strategic partner at this annual event that brings together over 450 delegates from 30 countries representing 299 organizations.
