Intel® Involved program in Philippines

Intel® Involved in the Community - PhilippinesThe Intel® Involved program in the Philippines has logged the highest percentage of employee volunteers worldwide. In 2007, 4,083 (80 percent of total employees) volunteered for projects in the schools within the community. In September 2007, Intel Foundation donated US$832,100 (roughly PhP37 million) to the 33 public schools in the General Trias Municipality, the General Trias Computer Clubhouse and select universities. This is the result of 333,113.5 hours of Intel employee volunteer work.

Intel Involved volunteers have led more than 25,000 students and teachers in earthquake and fire drills as part of Intel’s Partners in Safety Program for schools and provided school supplies such as backpacks, pens, crayons and other stationery supplies to over 30,000 school children in the area. School facilities are also getting bigger and better, with Intel grants creating new infrastructure including 17 classrooms, five computer laboratories, and three ALS Learning Centers. The ratio of students to classroom improved, from 90:1 to 40:1.

Intel® Involved in the Community - Philippines As a result of these improved learning facilities and an auxiliary teaching force of more than 1,500 Intel Involved volunteers, the academic performance of students improved dramatically. The achievement levels in math and science in District II increased by 16.83 percent in 32.70 percent respectively.

In 2006, the mayor of the General Trias Municipality approached Intel so that the government could incorporate Intel’s programs in its policies. This has resulted in the local government’s creation of the Municipal Environment Council and the annual Environmental Summit, launched in 2004.
