When installing an operating system or using hard
drive imaging software, you may experience slower
than expected performance with Serial-ATA hard
drives. Once the operating system is loaded and
Serial-ATA drivers installed, the performance
improves.
The reduced performance is because the onboard Serial-ATA controller does not currently support DMA transfer rates in DOS mode. A firmware update for the Serial-ATA controller that enables DMA transfer rates will be included in a future BIOS release.
A follow up communication will be sent in the coming weeks with the BIOS revision that includes the firmware update.
