Intel® Express Installer Driver CD installation failures for audio driver in Microsoft* Windows 2000 and Intel® Audio Studio for Microsoft* Windows XP x64 Edition
June 3, 2005
This communication applies to Intel® Desktop Board D945GNT, D945GTP, D945GCZ, D945PSN and D945PAW. Intel is working on new versions of the Express Installer CD that will correct the issues detailed below
Windows 2000:
Express Installer Driver CD’s with the revision numbers C97989-001 and C97985-001 may not successfully complete the audio driver installation in Windows 2000. The installation package includes Intel Audio Studio which does not support Windows 2000. The Express Installer Driver CD installation for Windows XP Home and Professional, Windows Media Center Edition 2005 and Windows XP x64 Edition will be successful.
For Windows 2000 installations, it is recommended that the option to install the audio driver be deselected before the device driver installation is started from the Express Installer. If the audio driver option is selected, the system may abruptly reboot followed by a series of error messages during the next boot up. An updated audio driver package for Windows 2000 is available for download from the following web link :
http://support.intel.com/design/motherbd/gendrive.htm
Please use this updated version of audio driver package instead of the Express Installer audio driver.
Windows XP x64 Edition:
Express Installer Driver CD’s with the revision numbers C97989-001 and C97985-001 may exhibit this problem. Although the Express Installer Driver CD installation of the device drivers complete successfully with Windows XP x64 Edition, Intel Audio Studio and other audio functions may not work as expected.
As a workaround, please perform a manual install of the audio driver from the Express Installer Driver CD folder containing the driver package. Please follow the steps below:
- Insert the Express Installer Driver CD into the optical drive, and wait for the Express Installer interface to appear.
- Click on Browse CD. An Explorer Window should open displaying the contents of the CD.
- Browse to the folder Software ? Drivers ? Audio
- Double-click to on the file named setup.exe
- Follow the on-screen directions to complete the installation. Intel Audio Studio and all audio functions should now work as expected.
