Platforms based on the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor in
the 478-pin package do not require a modified chassis (e.g.,
with additional mounting holes). Chassis for platforms based on
the Intel Pentium 4 processor must have either an
ATX12V
or SFX12V
power supply and improved ventilation. We encourage
integrators using ATX form-factor boards (D845HV) to choose a
chassis that complies with the ATX 2.01 (or later)
specification. Integrators using microATX form-factor boards
(D845WN) should choose a chassis that complies with the
microATX 1.0 (or later) specification.
The D845WN and D845HV boards require either an ATX12V or SFX12V power supply that differs from previous ATX and SFX power supplies, respectively. Both the ATX12V and SFX12V power supplies provide additional 12V processor current via a 2x2 pin connector that is required for proper operation.
The power management functions of the boards require a power
supply with a minimum +5V standby current (+5Vsb) of 800mA.
Intel highly recommends that you use a power supply with 1.5 to
2.0 A on the +5Vsb line. As more standby capable components are
added to the platform, more standby current is needed to
support these components.
The D845HV and D845WN boards were designed to support the
Pentium 4 processor in the 478-pin package only. Table 1 below
lists the current processor support for the D845WN and D845HV
boards.

The D845HV and D845WN boards support four SDRAM* DIMM* sockets.
A minimum of 32MB of ECC or non-ECC PC133 system memory is
required and up to 4GB is supported.
The boards support Ultra ATA/100 transfer rates. The 40-pin
80-conductor cable included with each board will support Ultra
ATA/100 transfers.
Peripheral Interfaces
The boards each have a diskette drive interface, two PS/2
ports, two serial ports, and one parallel port. The boards also
support up to seven USB ports (6 for the LAN sku), four routed
to the back panel, two routed to the front panel, and one
routed to the optional CNR.
Expansion Capabilities
The D845WN board has three PCI slots, one optional CNR slot
(shared with PCI slot 3), and one AGP connector. The AGP
connector only supports the latest 1.5V 4X/2X graphics cards
and not the 3.3V models. The CNR slot and PCI slot 3 are shared
and cannot be used simultaneously. The D845HV board has five PCI slots, one optional CNR slot
(shared with PCI slot 5), and one AGP connector. The AGP
connector only supports the latest 1.5V 4X/2X graphics cards
and not the 3.3V models. The CNR slot and PCI slot 5 are shared
and cannot be used simultaneously.
Windows* 98 Second Edition, Windows ME, and Windows 2000 support the D845WN and D845HV boards' ease of use, USB expansion, and power management features.
