Platforms based on the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor
in the 478-pin package do not require a modified
chassis (e.g., with additional mounting holes).
Chassis for platforms based on the Intel Pentium 4
processor must have either an
ATX12V, SFX12V or PS3-12V power supply and
improved ventilation. We encourage integrators
using ATX form-factor boards (D845BG) to choose a
chassis that complies with the ATX 2.01 (or later)
specification. Integrators using microATX
form-factor boards (D845PT) should choose a chassis
that complies with the microATX 1.0 (or later)
specification.
The D845BG and D845PT boards require either an
ATX12V, SFX12V or PS3-12V power supply that
differs from previous ATX and SFX power supplies,
respectively. The ATX12V, SFX12V and PS3-12V power
supplies provide additional 12V processor current
via a 2x2 pin connector that is required for proper
operation.
The power management functions of the boards
require a power supply with a minimum +5V standby
current (+5Vsb) of 770mA. Intel highly recommends
that you use a power supply with 1.5 to 2.0 A on
the +5Vsb line. As more standby capable components
are added to the platform, more standby current is
needed to support these components.
The D845BG and D845PT boards were designed to support the Pentium 4 processor in the 478-pin package only. Table 1 below lists the current processor support for the D845BG and D845PT boards.

The D845BG and D845PT boards have two DIMM slots
that support 200 MHz and 266 MHz DDR SDRAM system
memory. The board supports a minimum of 64MB of
system memory and a maximum of 2 GB. The board
supports both ECC and non-ECC DIMMs (ECC DIMMs will
operate in non-ECC mode only). Mixed speed DIMM
configuration will default to the slowest speed
DIMM installed. All memory must comply with the
following:
- Unbuffered and non-registered single or double-sided DIMMs
- Serial Presence Detect (SPD) memory
- Non-ECC and ECC Dimms (Will run in Non-ECC mode)
- 2.5V 184-pin Dual Inline Memory Modules
- Gold-plated contacts
- Intel DDR JEDEC Specification Addendums
The D845BG and D845PT boards are only compatible
with 1.5V AGP graphics cards. Use of legacy 3.3V
cards can result in damage to the card as well as
the board.
The D845BG and D845PT boards support Ultra ATA/66
and Ultra ATA/100 transfer rates. The 80-conductor
Ultra ATA/66 cable supports Ultra ATA/100 transfers
so the same cable may be used. The Ultra ATA
Storage driver can be installed from the driver CD
or you may download and install the latest
Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver.
The D845BG and D845PT boards have a floppy
controller, two PS/2 ports, one serial port and one
parallel port with ECP and EPP. The D845BG board is
equiped with six PCI slots while the D845PT board
has three PCI slots. Both boards have four USB 1.1
ports to the back panel, two to the front pannel
connector and one to the optional CNR port. The
D845BGSE board offers Hi-Speed USB 2.0 support with
up to 4 ports, two ports routed to the back panel,
two routed to the front panel header, and USB 1.1
routed to the optional CNR.
Note:The last PCI slot and optional CNR slot are
shared and cannot be used simultaneously.
Only the latest Microsoft operating system versions
support the D845BG and D845PT boards' ease of use,
USB expansion, and power management features.
Specifically, Windows* 98 Second Edition, Windows
Millennium Edition, Windows 2000 and Windows XP can
be used with the D845BG and D845PT boards.
