The D845EBG2 and D845EPT2 boards support the Intel®
Pentium® 4 processor in the 478-pin package. For a
detailed list of the supported processors, refer to
the
processor support table in the Components
section of this integration guide. Refer to the
Pentium 4 processor page for detailed processor
installation information.
Note: The processor fan heatsink power cable
should be installed into the fan power header
labeled CPU Fan.
Due to the layout of the board, it is recommended
to install memory in the DIMM sockets prior to
installing the AGP video card to avoid interference
with the memory retention mechanism. The boards'
two DIMM sockets are arranged as banks 0 and 1. If
installing a single DIMM, install it in bank 0.
Some chassis are equiped with three wire rear
chassis fans that that produce a tachometer output
signal for tacking fan speed. These rear chassis
fans should use the appropriate fan headers labeled
"REAR FAN" (J1B1).
The D845EBG2 and D845EPT2 boards supports Ultra
ATA/66 (DMA Mode 4) and Ultra ATA/100 (DMA Mode 5)
operation. If you are using an Ultra ATA/66 or
Ultra ATA/100 hard drive, you must use the 40-pin,
80-conductor IDE cable which ships with the boards.
The board and the cable are backward compatible
with previous transfer protocols. Install the IDE
cable in the following orientation:
- Plug the blue connector at the end of the cable into the desktop board.
- Plug the black (end) connector into the master drive.
- Plug the grey (middle) connector into the slave drive, if it is present.
Note: For best performance, place Ultra ATA/66/100
devices on the primary IDE channel and non-Ultra
ATA/66/100 devices on the secondary IDE channel.
Some older operating systems require that an
additional audio cable be connected from the CD-ROM
drive to the motherboard in order listen to CD's
directly from the CD-ROM drive. In this situation,
connect the CD-ROM audio cable to the connector
labeled "CD IN".
