RDIMM DDR3 memory support on the Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series
RDIMM DDR3 memory is available in 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB DIMM modules.
The chart below shows the number of RDIMMs per channel supported on the Intel Xeon processor 5500 series based on the memory speed and ranks per DIMM.

Other notes and restrictions:
- Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series will support all timings defined by JEDEC
- 256MB, 512MB and 4GB DRAM technologies and x16 DRAM on RDIMM are NOT supported
- All channels in a system will run at the fastest common frequency
- No mixing of registered and unbuffered DIMMs
- Mixing quad rank RDIMMs in one channel and 3DPC in another on same CPU socket is not supported
- If a QR RDIMM is mixed with an SR or DR DIMM in a channel, QR DIMM must be populated in slot 0
