Instructions for Removal of Permanently Adhered Customizable Notebook Panels

• Poor adhesion due to a dirty surface
• Mis-alignment
• Trapped air that forms bubbles beneath the panel

To avoid these problems:

1. Thoroughly clean the surface of the laptop. You can use isopropyl alcohol, or equivalent. As with all chemicals, carefully read and follow the manufacturer's precautions and directions.

2. Next, for proper alignment , without removing the release liner, ensure proper orientation of the panels by doing a trial positioning, comparing length and width of the panel and the recess.

3. If the panels match the recess, partially peel one corner of the release liner away and position this corner in its proper orientation in the top cover (lid) recess and press lightly. Once this is done, further peel the release liner to allow the positioning of an adjacent corner and press lightly. With these two corners positioned properly, level and equidistant from the edges of the recess, peel off the remainder of the release liner, check for alignment and press firmly across the entire area of the panel, using a straight edge to ensure there are no trapped air pockets beneath the customizable laptop panel.

   

During installation of the panels, it is necessary to apply moderate pressure to force the adhesive to come into good contact with the substrate and properly wet the surface, being careful not to distort the lid. This can be achieved using a hard-edged plastic tool (such as a plastic ruler), which is the full width of the panels after the liner has been removed and the panel has been aligned and applied to the A-cover recess. Note: Adding heat can enhance the bond strength to metals, but this is not the case with plastic parts. The ideal adhesive application temperature range is 21 °C (60 °F) to 38 °C (100 °F). Application is not recommended if the surface temperature is below 10°C (50°F) because the adhesive becomes too firm to wet and readily adhere. After proper application within the temperature range listed above, lower operating temperatures can be applied, down to the glass transition temperature, which is around -35 °C (-31 °F) for typical adhesives.

If during the placement process the panel becomes misaligned, then gently pull it off from the A cover and start again. The cover should be removable up to 15 minutes after initial placement whether it is a permanent or removable attachment. More complete installation instructions may be found here.
