Challenge
With numerous hospitals across Germany, each administering its IT environment differently, Asklepios initiated a program called OneIT to centralise the support of the architecture and PC management processes in Hamburg, Germany. This improves efficiency and establishes a foundation for access to its new standardised network.
Results
An assessment of the use of Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS)* 2003 and Intel vPro technology with Intel AMT illustrated the ability to increase cost effectiveness and quality of service of IT staff.
Impact
Reduced PC downtime is expected to improve productivity of all staff, resulting in more efficient and timely patient care. Solid, 24/7 visibility of PCs, operating system, and software is expected to cut average downtime from seven hours to a few minutes. It is anticipated that 12 percent of the third-level support can be moved to second-level support, which is less expensive and therefore has a positive impact on IT support cost.
Next steps:
Rollout Intel® vPro™ technology-based PCs and continue testing and assessment of additional features, such as platform-level alerting and the formation of a widespread IT strategy.
