Intel® Leap Ahead™

BMW – Greater Perfomance, Superior Simulations

Background Information
Founded in 1916 as Bayerische Flugzeugwerke AG and later changed to Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, the company is now the world’s leading premium manufacturer in the automotive industry

Challenges
Intel wanted to improve computer-aided design and engineering performance to enable the BMW Group to carry out increasingly complex vehicle and component simulations.

Solutions
BMW Group has upgraded to HP XW8600* high-end workstations running on the Intel® Xeon® processor 5400 series.
The new high-end workstations enable design and engineering teams to process up to four simulations or small calculations, while simultaneously running larger calculations on the shared cluster. This allows them to complete more complex tasks in a given timeframe. As a result, productivity has increased; the time taken to modify designs has reduced; and time to market has accelerated
