Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest in the UK, as well as busiest; with 2,000 beds divided between two campuses, Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital. As a major teaching trust it also has an industry leading IT infrastructure widely considered within the NHS to be a centre of excellence.
Challenge
- Manage, support and maintain 6,000 desktop PCs across two large hospitals located 30 minutes apart
- Cut down on the large number of desk side visits required for PC maintenance so IT teams are free to concentrate on core task
- Ensure all PCs receive security updates even when powered down or inaccessible to IT staff because of locked offices
Solution
- Proof of Concept carried out in closed laboratory conditions on Dell Intel® Core™ 2 processor with vPro™ technology-enabled desktop PCs together with a management console running LANDesk* systems management software
- Thoroughly tested the benefits of Intel® vPro™ processor technology in five critical operational areas: Desk Side Visits, Discovery and Inventories, Problem Resolution, Security and General Services
- Assessed the benefits realised by the IT team including reduced management time, comprehensive security features and improved productivity
