Challenge
Shell’s E&P division requires a powerful computational platform that can keep pace with the growing amount of data needed for the company’s bespoke software Dynamo* to turn seismic imaging into accurate and efficient predictions of oil and gas reservoirs.
Results
In comparison to a single-core Intel® Itanium processor, Shell E&P measured a 50% increase in performance of Shell’s bespoke software Dynamo* when running on Dual-Core Intel® Itanium processors 9000 series.
Impact
The Dual-Core Intel® Itanium processor 9000 series proved to be an excellent platform for Dynamo* software’s ever-increasing dataset, enabling Shell to boost the productivity of existing oil and gas fields and to find and develop new reserves.
