Enterprise Virtualization and Consolidation

print this page

Virtualization is a paradigm shift; it changes how you think about your resources. With virtualization, you are no longer limited to running only one operating system on an underutilized server or workstation. You can consolidate multiple operating systems and applications onto powerful Intel®-based servers—allowing a simplified data center, better utilization, reduced cost, and enhanced security for your enterprise.

Simplify your IT infrastructure

Reduce your data center footprint with fewer physical servers. With today's virtualization solutions, you can consolidate more applications on fewer servers for a more efficient, dependable and responsive data center . Lower data center costs and improve computing density by consolidating multiple operating systems and software stacks onto 2-way to 16-way and larger Intel® technology-based platforms.

Allocate and protect your resources more easily

Deploy and manage multiple physical and virtual servers securely and cost-efficiently from a common interface. Virtualization allows you to assign different security settings for each virtual machine and configure virtual partitions to provide automatic fail-over for application so that software faults and digital attacks are isolated within each virtual partition—giving you better security and more control over end-user and administrative privileges. Allocate and prioritize platform resources as needed from one workstation for a cost-effective approach to tailoring availability.

Migrate existing OS and hardware

Server virtualization enables legacy applications and their existing OS versions to be migrated onto virtual partitions without modification. Intel® technology provides specific functionality that helps simplify the deployment of virtualization software— delivering complimentary, optimized hardware support that magnifies the value of leading virtualization software solutions, such as VMware ESX Server* , Microsoft Virtual Server 2005* and Xen*.

Get better utilization from your existing servers

Achieve maximum utilization from your data center by consolidating multiple environments onto a single Intel-based server, letting you do more with less. Add more applications to the servers you already have and realize the extraordinary benefits of Intel® Virtualization Technology¹ — increased utilization and improved headroom within the same power envelope.
