Intel® Stable Image Platform Program (Intel® SIPP) Platform stability for desktop and notebook platforms
Intel® SIPP defined
Intel SIPP was designed to help address the need for hardware platforms that support a stable image. As IT managers deploy end-user systems in the enterprise, unexpected changes to a previously qualified platform can force hardware requalifications and software image revisions. This adds complexity in the client environment and increases hardware support and image management costs.
Intel SIPP aligns and stabilizes key Intel platform components to enable a more predictable annual transition from one generation of technology to the next. Intel SIPP enhances software stability by ensuring no changes to key platform components or drivers for at least 15 months from introduction. This allows for a 3-month qualification period and a 12-month deployment cycle.
Intel® SIPP benefits
Intel SIPP benefits businesses in three distinct ways:
- Reduces total cost of ownership (TCO). By making select Intel desktop and notebook platforms available for at least 15 months, Intel SIPP enables IT organizations to minimize the number of platform configurations within their installed bases and reduce TCO.
- Increases IT responsiveness. Given fewer hardware-based variables to contend with, IT departments can spend less time validating and deploying software applications and security patches—and focus more on delivering responsive, efficient and effective service to enterprise users.
- Improves deployment success. With fewer hardware configurations in the PC fleet, IT departments can decrease the potential for software-based failures during deployment.
Streamlining PC hardware can yield significant benefits
A PC environment with limited configuration diversity and controlled deployments provides an optimum balance among deployment, support, decommissioning, and hardware acquisition costs. Realize the benefits of a simplified hardware environment by:
- Reducing the number of PC vendors.
- Minimizing the number of PC configurations deployed each year.
- Adopting a proactive PC refresh policy.
- Aligning PC acquisition and deployment plans with vendor product roadmaps and Intel SIPP transition guidance for business desktop PCs and business notebook PCs.
